Son had asmall fender bender that I had to replace the radiator. After filling with coolant the radiator fan will not come on. I wait for the fan to start but I strart to steam just under 3/4 on the dash gauge. I've read some on a 95 (this is a 97 sl2)that it had two sensor one for the gauge and another for the fan but I can only locate one near where the top hose connects to engine block. The fan will come on if I disconnect the connector to that sensor. The gauge always reads 1/2 when the sensor is unplugged. I plugged the sensor back in while the engine was running and the fan went off and the gauge went to just above cold. At this point it looks like a sensor but I just would like to make sure there is not two.

Not completely S-car knowledgeable but I can direct you to two links to check for the engine coolant sensor with pictures including the two-wire sensor that corrodes if the original plastic sensor cracks. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24003and http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37884

Hope they help.

Indeed, ECTS and connector both need to be replaced.

Replace with brass-tipped replacement and Saturn-only connector (it is a crimp-in replacement.

Overheating an S car engine too many times will often lead to a warped head.....

Thanks for reply. Changed sensor and fan started working correctly. Comes on just under 3/4 and turns off at 1/2.
