Hi newbie here. My son has a 97 sl1 that the checkengine light comes on and off. I told him to go to Autozone and they would read the codes for him. It read out cam position sensor and egr trouble. I do not have the code numbers available at this time. Do this unit engine have a cam sensor or just a crank sensor? What would you actually want to replace with that kind of a code? I will try to take the egr valve off and clean it and see if that would help. He said the car seems to be running fine, but does say that every once in a great while it will miss. Thanks guys.Edited by: sw2cam

Probably got a P0341.

Check for corrosion at the coil packs, and inspect plugs and wires.

I checked the coil packs, good spark. Put in new plugs and wires, and took egr valve off and cleaned it with carb cleaner and made sure it was moving freely. put new gasket on and did this with the battery unhooked. Started right up and runs good but the service engine light is still on. How can I get it to shut off?

Mine just popped up with that code too...I cleared it with a code reader and it's been gone, for now.

Didn't run bad, but with that code there are scenarios where it will run fine but not the way Saturn designed it. So it throws a code.

I'd have the codes checked to see if the same codes are present.

replace the 1/4 coil, go with factory unit not aftermarket this is of course under the assumption the plugs and wires are good. I've run into this hundreds of times since obd2 came along that'll fix it
