I just bought a 96 sl2, and have noticed that beween 2nd and 3rd (auto) the torque converter is locking up b4 hitting 3rd gear? Is this normal? Please advise!!

have you had a look at the trans fluid? when, if ever, have you had a trans service, such as a flush and fill?

The dealershop says everything looks fine and will do a service to be sure. They did pull out 5 codes from ecu and took it to a saturn dealership to look everything over. This car was sucha good buy....44000 miles on a 96 model I just hope there isnt anymore issues!!

i would maybe try a tranny shop, or someplace to give you a second opinion.

My 96 sl1 had this same problem I had a DTC, Forgot which one, however it was incorrect third gear ratio, It seems their was wireing error at the factory, and caused erritic shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear, which wore out my 3rd gear clutch pack, I had to replace it, I would go to your local saturn dealership and start asking some techs. Or if you have access to all data...
