The "Check Engine Soon" bulb is burnt out on my 96 SL2. How difficult is it to replace these bulbs.

Any help will be appreciated.

Well, it is not exactly ''easy'', but you should be able to handle it.

Do be very sure of two things, however:

(1) On Saturn models equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, always disable the airbag(s) before working in the vicinity of the steering wheel, instrument panel or SIR system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag(s), which could cause personal injury.

(2) On models equipped with a theft-deterrant radio, make sure you have the correct activation code, or the theft deterrant system turned off, before disconnecting the vehicle battery.

Well, first thing. Theres no reason to disable the air bag or worry about disconnecting the battery and needing you theft-deterrant info for the radio.

Just pop out the cluster and replace the bulb.

Heres instructions from my website:

This is not difficult if you have an ohmmeter. It looks like the bulbs closest to the connector are to blame. I took it apart and measure them and found 2 of them are out and none of the others have failed yet. They still can be bought online from certain GM dealers but not many. I just bought a set of them and they even discount them. They seem expensive even at that price but it is better to have them now before they are totally gone and some of the other manufacturers don't meet the same quality standard. These blub are made for GM in Germany and are also used by Mercedes Benz. They may keep making them but who knows if they will not allow them out of Germany if they are completely gone here.

Hey Joe, you're responding to a post that is 13 years old. One of those member has actually been banned. I don't know about the other two.
