2002 SL no start, no ignition power
My 2002 SL will intermittently lose ignition power. Car fails to start, no lights, wipers, horn etc. Battery is brand new and has a constant 12.6 V when checked with DMM. Checked all IGN fuses and wiring etc. It will run fine for several days, then once it is shut off it will lose power. Leave it for a few hours and it suddenly gains all power back and fires right up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Replace the positive main battery cable, it is rotting away on the inside (like termites)

Check and do as he says.

I will do that this weekend. Thanks very much. Will let you know if problem persists.

Take a good look at the ground cable for corrosion while you're at it. I'd just replace them both if it were mine.

I ordered new cables and put them on today. The new ones have a much smaller wire that connects to the fuse box under the hood. Is this going to be an issue? I'm just worried about melting wires with the large difference is wire sizes. Thanks!

Not having the gauge of wire needed is not a good thing. Thats the problem with buying cheap after market parts. They may work, but maybe just to the minimum. I have no idea where you live because you have no information in your signature. But if you live in a place it gets real cold you may end up with starting problems when the mercury drops. Same goes for a place that gets real hot.

If the ordered cables are not the same size as the OEM cables, I'd be back to wherever they wuz ordered from, and have 'em order the proper cables

Thanks everyone. I live in Canada so winters are ridiculously cold! I'll order the correct cables. thanks again for all the help! It's much appreciated

Did the new cables get you started? I agree that you do need the correct gauge cables, but if you're up and running now, then you know you've got the problem solved, but need the proper size for the winter.
