2000 Saturn SL2 No-Spark (shortly after crash).
Hello all. Joshua here. I'm posting this here, seems like the right place.
In early December I was in a small collision. I took damage to front driver side strut and knuckle. They have since been replaced. Also, my lower cooler line started leaking from the impact and thats been replaced. As I was waiting for parts and whatnot I started my Saturn every couple days to keep everything fresh. Well I ran the radiator empty without knowing. What seemed like a small drip wasn't. The saturn was running for about 60 to 80 seconds at idle. Then the rpms began to rise and fall, up and down. Then the car stalled. I replaced the cooler line and refilled the cooling system as best I could for now (closed system). But my Saturn wont start anymore. No Spark. I checked with an inline tester. The vehicle cranks over hard its always been a good car. I checked my CPS with an ohmmeter it checks out at 750 ohms. I cleaned my coil packs and checked the resistance at towers. Both came in around 7500 ohms. Tomorrow I'm going to check for spark again. And see if there are any new MIL, then start the more comprehensive voltage testing. Possibly the ICM is shot. There is a p0341. Big question is what did I wreck as it slowly leaked radiator fluid. I have read that bad ECTS can contribute to no spark. But I cant find a bench test for that sensor. I have read many older post on this topic but I wanted to start a new thread because my circumstance is different. Thanks everyone.. If you have some good thoughts that would help. I'm working on this around the clock now, I have to solve it. |
Seems more like a coincidence.
that code is for a misfire on cylinder 1 and/or 4. check your plugs and wires. Ects also is extremely common in them. Only replace with acdelco. |
Does it have gas? Parked my truck with 1/4 tank of gas. Did same as you, started it every so often. Last time it stalled, out of gas.

Update:
Replaced ects no change. Checked the pink wire at ICM harness. The ICM has voltage from the PCM. I think ive narrowed it down here. Theres no arc at the coil packs. Ive checked the coil packs they read 7,500 ohms. Almost certain now ICM is shot. Gonna head to the yard monday... |
If the CKP is bad or disconnected, the PCM inhibits spark at the ICS. Therefore you will see no arc across the coil towers in that situation.
You will also have no fuel into the cylinders as the injectors are turned off (no pulses) Do you have fuel at the injectors? Are the plugs gas fouled or oil fouled when removed after a cranking session? If no fuel, it is likely that there is a wiring discontinuity at the CKP connector or in the wiring between the CKP and the PCM. If it is only no spark, then the ICM makes more sense. Also, p0341 is the camshaft position sensor bogus error which indicates a general issue with the ignition system. It is not a misfire code. Those would be p0300 to p0304. Collisions and running over debris from them can damage wiring and shake things loose that you wouldn't expect to happen.. |
Any updates?
