Remember that the ects is a temperature indication at.a single physical location. In the head. If the coolant isn't circulating, the reading is not indicative of the temp of the entire system. As a result, the rest of the system overpressurizes, the reservoir cap releases pressure around 15 psi, and you overheat.

Would not hurt to replace ects and connector w AC Delco parts. The fan will never turn on unless the ects reads above 3/4. Will turn on w a/c.

What was your normal gauge reading?

1999 sc2 overheating

Thank you, that makes sense. the gauge is usually at 1/4 but has never gone past that, during the winter it never moved from the lowest point?

REPLACE ECTS FIRST WITH AC DELCO PARTS.

Then see what happens.

Sorry for the initial misdirect.
Sounds like your ects has been bad for a LONG time. But the fact that it was cold outside kept your engine from overheating. (Lucky you be)
