I have the 99 SL2 1.9l DOHC with manual trans, and recently broke a rod, havn't taken it apart yet to see if the crank has been damaged, but most likely has. I havn't completely decided on weather or not to rebuild the motor and replace the damaged parts, or just swapping it with another complete motor, but I've been looking around, e-bay and other local classifieds and have had trouble finding a decent 1.9l sl2 motor. My question is this: Are there any other compatible motors that I could consider or look for, such as from other years, models, or even makes, that would go in place of, without extensive modification to engine compartment? Or any other suggestion as to where to find a good replacement motor, should I decide that replacement is a better decision than repair.

If you have spare money and want to have some fun, I've heard that a GSR will fit into the engine chasis without any modification... Imagine: An Integra motor in a frame as light as a Saturn...

Can you please point us to reference material supporting the above claim?

Completly untrue. A major amount of modification is needed to put any engine other than a 1991-2002 LL0, LK0 or L24.

It depends on when your 1999 was built. Does it have the black plastic intake manifold or silver aluminum one. 1999 was a transition year. Cars built early in the model year had the aluminum intake manifold, later in the model year had the black plastic one.

If you have the aluminum intake manifold, a 1993-1999.5 will work. If you have a black plastic intake manifold, a 1999.5-2002 will work. Actually, with minor modification, a 1993-2002 will work reguardess.

A bunch of people on some Honda Techie forums were posting about it while I was searching for random stuff over at my buddy's house... So I don't have any links...

Please refrain from posting unsubstantiated misinformation. If you can't back it up, don't post it (unless it's phrased as a question).

I also said that I heard it... I didn't say I saw it done or did it myself...
