I have a 1998 SL 1 car with a 1.9L SOHC and was wondering if a motor from a 1999 SC 1 or 2 will fit and if it matters if it is a SOHC or a DOHC.

If it currently has a SOHC, I'd stick with that. There's a bit of work and extra parts involved to change to a DOHC. Besides that, I believe that the 98 and 99 model engines are interchangeable.
