Good morning derf!
I am not positive what model it is, I think SL 1. It is a 4 door with handcrank windows, no cruise control, no ABS, a fairly plain jane version.

Single overhead cam or double overhead cam. Thus the SL1 or SL2.

I have never paid attention to single or double overhead cam. I will check and let you know!

Thanks for the info!

But an SL1 has a SOHC engine and the SL2 has the DOHC.

Hi derf!
No i have not solved it, but I also have not seen the car for a couple of weeks. I bought a speed sensor which I have not yet installed, and a scanner which should allow me to monitor some if the workings of this car. I would like to try the speed sensor and measure some of the electrical functions, I.E. solenoid resistance etc. My friends have been sick with the flu and unable to bring the car over to me.
Hopefully next week.
Thanks for checking on me!

Yep, it's best to stay as far away from anyone with the flu as possible. I don't ever recall seeing on the news damn near every night where some child has passed on from the flu. It breaks my heart.

Default Still no good

I finally got to work on the no reverse Saturn. I changed the VSS speed sensor, no help. I checked the resistance of all the solenoids, all were 4.5 to 5 ohms, which is right in the nominal range. I bought a scanner which let me monitor the output of the VSS vehicle speed sensor, it reads correctly, 0 Km/h when the vehicle is at rest.
I guess I am at the end of the line with it.
I just wonder if the valve body I installed is defective.

Any more thoughts?
