Hello,

I just bought a 95 SL2 sedan, the car runs great until I go over 50mph. Once I go over 50mph the steering wheel will rotate from left to right about an inch every 5 seconds or so. Before 50mph the steering wheel is fine.

Do you know what the cause could be?Edited by: projectpete19

have you balanced the tires? Or is it happening more when braking?

no i havent done anything yet, no it doesnt happen when braking, only when going over 50mph. its like once the odometer hits 50 on the dot it starts

Possible tire issue. I would try rotate and balance before any mechanical issues. Much cheaper way to start.....

alright i will try that, thanks

I had a similar issue such as this and it ended up being a tie rod end. I never noticed it until the car got up in speed. Tie rods are simple to replace but you HAVE TO</span> have your car aligned after you replace them.

how can i check myself if the tie rod end is bad?

Good Question.... I have tried and tried and without taking off the wheel and all that jazz.... it's a tough one (for me personally) ... I have seen people jack the car up and jiggle the tire and all sorts of things... But, Instead of doing all that I take my car into a place and tell em I want an alignment (front end - 35$ to 45$ usually) If the tie rod end is bad they can't do the alignment, the guy will come out and tell me the issues I have with my car (if any) and I end up doing all that work myself (Ball joints, Tie Rod ends, etc.) and then I end up bringing it back to them to have the alignment done.

** One ignorant thing I have done in the past is I bought brand new tires (450 bucks) and never bothered to get an alignment done (didn't think I needed to) and 5 months later my brand new tires were shot because I had a stinking tie rod end that was bad. I could have saved myself all that misery by just replacing a tie rod end for 12 bucks and getting an alignment. I'll never NOT do that again!
