02 SL2 Trunk wont open, seats wont fold

Hello everyone,

Ive got an 02 SL2 without power locks or keyless. The trunk has always opened using the key, or the lever beside the driver's seat... until recently.

The key turns and feels normal, but the trunk dosent pop. The lever by the seat pulls and feels normal as well, but no response from trunk. :(

I figured maybe the trunk release is still electronic, (even without keyless) so I checked the fuses and they are all okay. (ALL of them; Center console AND engine compartment.)

I was going to fold down the seats, climb back there and see what I could figure out, but the seats will not fold. Im pretty sure they are locked from inside the trunk.

Pulling either strap feels like it unlocks half of the fold down seat but the center latch will not release on either of the 60/40 seats. Ive been trying to 'coat hanger' my way in, but I can't really feel the action of the seat latch.

Any ideas on how to get in there?
Or just get the seats folded down?
Anybody got a pic of the seat latches?

Have you tried having someone pull the lever or turn the key while you "bump" to trunk lid with your fist? Sounds like maybe the cable has stretched a little and is not disengaging the lock all the way. As for the seats, I don't have a clue. I never had any problem folding mine down in the SC1.

You are right, the seats have a slide lock on them. The trunk is a motorized release, triggered by the lever. Never noticed a problem like that before, but I guess it's possible. The wire from the RKE back to the lock is grey, and will be in the bundle going to the back of the car. The key on the decklid operates the latch mechanically, so it sounds like something is sprung .......

First, push down hard on the trunk lid, then try the key. If the key doesn't work, then hold the key in the unlock position and push down hard on the trunk lid again. It should pop up. When it does finally open, be sure to lubricate the latch mechanism. I think I'll go lube mine right now.

Hey if all else fails go to a junk yard search for the same color trunk lid,go home and tear yours off and fix the problem before you close it.
