Saturn Relay 2006 Charging system failure

getting charging system failure notice on DIC and then eventually gives me a battery saver mode notification. Battery voltage is reading from 10.2 to 11.8. Could this be an alternator issue or the voltage regulator?

Thanks.

Yes and yes.

Most voltage regulators are now integrated into the alternators.

Take your vehicle to AutoZone or similar and have them due a load test to determine whether it is indeed your alternator or a failing cell in your battery that is unable to store the charge.

Much cheaper than just throwing parts at it.

How do you like the relay? I think we've only had five people in this board that have ever posted. No sarcasm intended but most of us have never seen one let alone seen under the hood.

Thanks. The Relay has done pretty well for us. We got it free from a friend when my daughter turned 16 and got her drivers license. She is now 21 and it is still chugging along :-). Not the best gas mileage..but I just drive it around our town now.

I forgot to mention that the load test is completely free. Just take the print out of the results with you. Ignore the advice of the person running the test. Do not buy anything. Please post what it says and we'll figure it out from there.

Sometimes these things can be as simple as a loose cable at a battery terminal or a poor ground from the battery to the frame. So don't buy anything till we figure it out.
