Throttle Body
Hello I’m new to this forum. Came across this page a couple years ago and would frequently end up here when searching for info but this is my post.
Ive Been having trouble with my L300 lately. It starts and cuts off within a couple seconds of running. I was told that it is most likely a bad throttle body. I’m having the hardest time finding a replacement throttle body for the v6 engine. The 2.2L version seem to be everywhere. Was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction to find one… part number 0280750005. Thanks |
What makes you think you need a throttle body? What are the trouble codes? The throttle body only controls air flow and idle speed. What is the security light doing?

Do we rest or throw parts at it?

A few weeks ago while driving I noticed the car felt weaker than usual, the all of a sudden it starts sputtering really bad. Took it to autozone to get it scanned and got a bunch of codes related to spark plugs. Changed the spark plugs and coil packs and the same thing happened. Scanned it as it was struggling to start got a bunch of different codes. Long story short I replaced the camshaft and crankshaft sensors now the only code that keeps coming up is P0343 tries 2 different camshaft sensors and still won’t run. It starts after a couple tries, and dies before it starts idling. It’s not the fuel pump or filter, they were recently replaced.
the security light has been on for a couple months but never gave me any problems. I just noticed it on after I had some suspension work done… the engine sounds good when it starts. It doesn’t sound rough or there’s no strange noise or medal clinking sounds the car just dies after seconds. |
If you're buying your parts at Autozone, then that's most of what's wrong with it. Having worked for them for 5 years, I can tell you that their electrical parts (sensors) are pure junk. Get your stuff from rockauto or a genuine GM dealership. And stop throwing parts at it. Get it scanned again and post the codes here. Is your catalytic converter in good shape? It might be stopped up.

Security light on indicates an issue with the passlock security system. When the system security is tripped, the injectors are shut off. The car may start with residual fuel or vapors in the cylinders, but will at most run for 2 seconds, then stall. This is by design. The security system will not throw a code that AutoZone will read. It might throw a code that a true scanner can read. Namely a body code starting with B.
Perform a 30 minute passlock relearn procedure. It's posted on this and every other GM vehicle forum as well as the rest of the internet. If that doesn't work, then we look closer at the components. The additional codes you see may or may not be related to the repeated stumbling and stalling of the engine. Passlock procedure first thing. Hope your battery up to a charger or a running vehicle with jumper cables or your battery will die during the procedure and the procedure will fail. |
I’ve seen a few posts about this but didn’t think it was the issue, I’ll try it out today
