I just got a mint condition L300 with 122,000 miles on it. Runs great, shows no signs of any leaks, maint records are good and it was a single owner vehicle. Shortly after getting it the service engine soon light came on... I took it to Saturn who said it produced a lean code thus they tested the fuel pressure and it showed low so they replaced the fuel pump and the pressure is now good. However they still have a lean code and I still have the ses light on. Anyone had issues with this? This is my first saturn... I'm hoping it's not a lemmon now... cause it seemed like a really nice car.

It might help if you posted the codes for the lean condition. Its recommended also that the mileage suggests replacing the timing belt and water pump at 100k miles. It can be expensive but a precaution against any future problems with our twin overhead cam V6 engines (mine is the '03 L300 V6). Over at http://saturnfans.comthere are quite a few of us and the ones that have replaced their belts and pump remarked that both didn't seem to need replacement. However, there's no guarantee until the cam cover is taken off that the pump may leak onto the beltresulting inmajor engine repair if the belt were to break. You might read the threads there in the L-series forums for any common failures such as mass air flow (MAF) sensors.

I just got off the phone with the Saturn Mechanic. We've now replaced the fuel pump and the MAF. They're still getting the SES llght. They say the watch it on the computer and as soon as the car hits 180 degree's temp they geta lean condition for 3/100's of a second that kicks the SES light on again. The lean condition doesn't stay and everything else he says runs great. The codes they get are


P00171 Lean bank 1


P00174 Lean bank 2


Anyone got any ideas on this one? The Saturn tech is also trying to get tech support for ideas.

2001 Saturn L300 with 123,000 miles

3.0 motor, theres 2 bolts in the intake manifold that come loose that cause this condition. i believe there is a tsb on this issue.

sorry, i was thinking of the vue 3.0, different manifold on the L series motor. it's the mass air flow sensor. there is a TSB for this problem

I had the same problem recently and I discovered that the vacuum line going from the front of the trottle face to near the thermostat was dryrotted and had split open. Check this 1/4 inch rubber hose GM Part#905731830066501. Thought I''d share my good fortune of finding this solution to both of those Lean codes- FYI >171 code is for 4 cylinder and 174 is for V6, but both codes show up-same circuit. Good Luck.
