yall my think im insane

Hi guys and gals,
so Im new here. I just got a 2001 saturn l100 with a 2.2 ecotec /w automatic. Im looking at build a sleeper to run with my friends a little, I was thinking doing an lsj swap with a 5 or 6 speed out of a cobalt, Ik its not going to be an easy, yes i do have mechanical expirence, i do it as odd jobs and bartering for other stuff. i was wondering if any one else has done this (or at least manual swapped an l100 at least) thank in advance.

Welcome, I drive a 5 speed L200 that uses the same F35 Getrag trans that is in a Cobalt GT. So all the axles and mounts are already factory made. It would be easy to install an lsj or the turbo Saab version. The Cobalt and the twin Ion Redline use a cable shifted version of this transmission with the freeway gears. The L series use a rod shifted version with low 4.45 final drive. All the stick shift stuff bolts in, all the holes are there. There is a support on the subframe for the shift linkage that could be added or just swap a stick shift subframe.

ok, Im very confused, It is a cable operated system, and the transmission is an f35 getrag. also im moor looking into doing a simliar set up to the saab after i did some research last night. is the a list of parts i need to get that you can give me. thanks

You’re right, the L series uses the Getrag F35 transmission... a good thing is that the L series PCM has tuning support, with HPTuners... swapping an LSJ in isn’t totally necessary, as the L61(used in the L200) will handle some boost just fine...

theres also a guy guy on this forum looking to part out an LSJ powered car(Ion Redline) and you could contact him(me) if you wanted to buy parts

The f35 is available both cable and rod shifted. Saab has used both types in their cars over the years. The L series Saturn uses a rod shifted version. The Ion Redline uses a cable shifted version. I purchased a 2006 Saab 93 transmission with a 4.05 final and it is cable shifted. I plan on moving the guts to my spare rod shifed case for a 10% final drive reduction. My car has plenty of get up and go for me and I would like to slow my freeway rpm 10%.

OK so, o2 lw300, did you say i could swap the sub from to make my like a little easier instead of modifying my current subframe, if you did what sub frame would match???
19bonestock88, when i officially start gathering parts i will message you. right now im just trying to make a parts list and a budget... thanks for the offer.
thanks for yalls help guys i really appreciate it

Factory stick shift L series cars were made from 2000 through 2003, they are all 4 cylinder cars. They may have made a few as 2004 models but I have never seen one. I drive a 2002 stick and I bought a 2000 stick with a bad engine and took it all apart for spares. The rod shifter fits in the same hole through the firewall that the automatic shift cable runs through. If I wanted to convert an automatic car to a stick I would buy a complete donor. I paid $100 for my complete parts car.
