94 saturn sl2 140000 sat 2 years now running but had hesitation and fan didn't click on so replaced ect sensor and ran injector cleaner now runs great except idles really high now. It was at normal 700rpm before and now its at 1200-1400rpm and surges up and down between 500 and 1400rpm for a bit until it finally settles at 1200rpm. Any ideas? Should I replace the ect again or what? I took about 5 different applications of the injecter cleaner could that have caused this? Is there another sensor that needs to be replaced? Thank you very much for your consideration and suggestions!! Sam x86guru@hotmail.com

Did you replace ECTS with a brass tipped one? Must use the brass tipped replacement.

Also, if ECTS connector is even slightly corroded, the signal to the PCM can get hosed. Hosed coolant temp sensor signal to PCM often leads to high idle (and other unwanted performance related effects)....

Recommend replacement of brass tipped ECTS and connector with Saturn parts. Connector is Saturn-only, quite pricey, but prone to corrosion, especially if coolant has seeped into the connector from failure of the original ECTS.

Also -- check for vacuum leak around intake manifold and around the throttle body.

Please post resolution

[QUOTE=x86guru]You guys are the best!!! I went with the Saturn ect sensor and new connector and it runs like new now! I am extremely impressed with your quick, accurate response!!! Incidently, Saturn dropped the price of the connector due to the extremely high failure rate with these... It came out to $35 for both the sensor and connector! Thanks again you are a rock star!
