2001 l200 random shut off
hi my 01 l200 has 100000 miles on it now and just started giving me trouble the day my boy got his license(maybe its a sign lol).
it sometimes dies at a light or just when idling, I have to cycle the key a few times to restart it. works almost every time. it will also die if its in park and i rev it to the limiter, it will just die. no codes, new pump, now filter, new crank sensor. fuel pressure stays steady between 50-60 psi at all times when key is on even when it dies. I've swapped fuel relays around, cleaned the air idle control valve(that seemed to help at first) but it still seems to be functioning as when i turn the ac on the rpm goes up. checked fuel pressure regulator also. i was getting a small evap leak code before this started but a new fuel cap and it hasn't been back. not sure what to check now, any ideas? |
What does the security light do? Does it come on when you start it and then stay off? Hopefully no flashing. Is there any timing chain rattle at the belt end of the engine?

That sounds like a good plan. Don’t ever free rev an engine to the rev limiter if you like the car. With no load on the engine things tend to come apart.

Have you checked your fuel pump pressure?

pressure was between 50-60 at all times even as it shut down

That is rail pressure.
I think rube was talking about actual fuel pump pressure. What is the spec for fuel pressure at the rail? And do you have the 2.4 or the V6? |

My bad. I thought 50 to 60 was way too high but that is about the spec for your engine. I thought too much pressure might be getting through the regulator but that does not seem to be the case.
Again, sorry about that |
