Keeps Stopping
I have a 2001 l200 Saturn with 137 miles on it.. been running great reg maintenance on it oil changes etc.. Was driving highway at 55 miles and hour and the engine just quit.. got to side of road would not start.. read many comments on crank sensor also timing chain.. any tips on where to start etc.. I know many said there were problems with timing chains in this car but warning that timing chain was having issues .. no noise or anything when car stopped .. appreciate any help..

Run the codes on it first. Since it just died, I'm guessing timing chain, but chains usually last a hell of a lot longer than 137,000 miles. I've got a Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3 engine with 203,000 miles on the original chain and it still runs great. DO NOT start shot gunning parts at it hoping to fix it. This could add up to a lot of money in a hurry and still have a no start situation.

Thank you all for your prompt replies. It was the timing chain. Our mechanic said he had never seen one break quite like this one.. After more research there was a definite problem with this series of Saturn.. the 2001 to the 2003 that they had corrected after that year.. if we had know we would have had the just changed the chain.. this is the first time I have used this forum so again is so appreciate your prompt replies. Thank you again.

Yes it was a design flaw.. And for getting it fixed I am blessed to work with a mechanic who has his own garage at home (hes built racing cars for years) so he towed it to his place and completely tore down the engine and is rebuilding it! timing chain gasket etc.. A dealership or garage wanted anywhere up to 4000.00 to do it because of the damage that was done by the chain breaking the way it did.. and well my co worker is insisting on just money for parts..so was truly a blessing..thanks again all...
