I was replacing the tie rod ends on an 07 Saturn Ion-2 2.2 and saw this on the passenger side. Is this a big deal? The boot goes around this and and it doesn't seem to seal anything liquid wise.

Also, It's weird that the driver side looked kind of different. Can anyone take a look at these two images and tell me why? The last photo is what it looks like on the passenger but the driver side is more like a round pole i forgotto take a pic of that side tho. Kinda like on cv axles. Why's the passenger side have this flat piece? Normal?
