Default What's this go to??

What's this and how important is it? It's been like this for a few years, that I've been aware of. I think when the car sat for well over a year after the timing chain snapped, a mouse might have gotten in there and chewed on it. I never bothered with it because I forget about it after being under the hood. It's right at the corner of the hood on the driver side. At the front of the engine bay

Thanks

Edit:
Dunno

(Didn't zoom in on picture before I guessed. Thought those wires were small metal tubes. They're not. Was not referring to metal tubes coming off of master cylinder / ABS.)

Default here we go

I have a similar looking connection in the same location. I believe it is for fog lights. That is what I was told. However, not 100% sure. Never put an OHM meter on it and tested it. But I will now. You have me curious. I'm from the school of..( if it's not broke, don't fix it ) so I left it alone. But you had to bring it up....so?

Well now I had to go out and check my Ion. I have this connector also. Empty also except for some accumulated pollen and particles. So I looked it up in the service manual and its connector C121 for ambient temperature sensor (DF5). I spent a long time searching through the service manual for any other information without success. But Googling finally gave me the answer. DF5 is apparently an RPO code for the outside air temperature display for the Onstar package. There is also a compass direction display, and it is all shown on the rear view mirror. I can live without it.
But thanks for an hour of entertainment. When you get to a certain age, small challenges like this provide a lot of satisfaction when solved.

Thanks for the update. Although I only had On-star for the first free year, the compass still kinda works but I have to push a button to get it to come in. I've always thought it just kinda wore out because it works sometimes or the lights are off other times or it'll display characters like it malfunctioning or showing like an error or something. Guess I'll connect the wire back and see what happens
