Trunk leakage...

I'm getting a lot of water leakage in my right side trunk area especially after a strong rain. Is this a known problem?

DropDead 03-05-2020 04:27 AM

That vent is known to leak

IMAKING 03-05-2020 07:00 AM

Vent? What do you mean???

derf 03-05-2020 01:04 PM

Maybe the one that vents battery gases?

They're plastic...

Passenger side inside the trunk. Pull the carpet back

Thanks guys. The leak is from above not from below. Anyway I found it. A small rust spot next to the rubber trunk seal on the right.

Clean it,, JB Weld it, sand it, prime it and paint it.

Before I bought my Ion I found that there was a chunk of ice frozen on the right side of my trunk below that vent. When it warmed up enough outside to melt it I sucked up all the water. Is this coming in because of my vent or is it something else? how can I test the vent to see if its the cause of the leak?

Get inside the trunk and have someone simulate a light rain with a hose pointing straight down and the force of the water similar to rain. Not being sarcastic. Make it as close to realize you can and you should find whether that is the cause of your leak or not.

Or you may need to try different angles that simulate water splashing up from the road. If it only leaks while driving then I would definitely do that as well
