Trouble turning key
Ok so I dont have any problem with this some how i figured out how to "bypass" it but Im giving my ion to my finance and she has trouble turning the key. It will go in but you have to like jiggle it pull it out a tad and turn it over all at the same time for it to work. She cant deal with it and this is the 3rd ignition ( got the key stuck b4 and the key broke) anyway anyone know of a way to maybe take it apart and fix it, or should I buy a new one or maybe a new key?? thx

Sounds like it's time to replace the ignition lock cylinder and key.

Most chain auto parts stores sell them. I got mine at Autozone, but mine is an S series and maybe the Ions are more sophisticated on the electronics. Damned if I know. I found this at Autozone. If you can find the tumbler kit, you can keep your same key. I've successfully replaced the tabs in a couple of Mopar lock cylinders. You just have to be careful to put the same letter or number back in the same slot you take the old one out of. By this picture, it looks like they're replaceable on yours. Double check at the store before purchasing it. Ask if they can just get the replacement tabs IF indeed that is an accurate picture. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...mString=search
Each one of those "rectangular" looking pieces is swappable and should either have a letter or number on them. Clean the assembly with some brake parts cleaner, carb cleaner or even just some WD-40. Replace the springs with the new ones too! |

Sounds like a key issue to me. I have no idea how much either solution costs, nor can I guarantee it's the key---but it's a possibilty |
