Default speedometer inop

speedometer doesn't indicate speed BUT the odometer does click off the miles traveled...

I presume the speedo stepper motor (maybe, what do I know)
Is there a onboard gauge cluster test like in my chrysler products?
(hold the trip button while turning on the ignition )()(or something similar method to test the functions and indicators of the gauge cluster?)

So I figured because I was posting in the Saturn ION section, it would be presumed I speak of a Saturn Ion...

2003 Ion 2, white, Dunlop tires, 2.2 hamster wheel, no hubcaps (so kinda looks like a police car) smashed windshield

Hopefully, I think I got my make and model info in my profile... but it still does not appear to be showing. Perhaps I can find a signature section to post it.

Admittedly, I know what I speak of and while carrying on forum conversations, I oft neglect to keep repeating that info BUT, I am on other forums and it certainly frustrates me when I am trying to help and I have to continue to ask a member over and over...
... so I suggest that they put year, make, model, mileage, trim level info into their signature so I can easier help them.

I apologize Derf, I am aware how frustrating that may be.

Just so we all are aware, the mobile version of the webpage does not display signatures.

I asked many years ago if the people who own this site were going to address it.

They said not anytime soon.

They've kept their word.

And the fact that you posted in the ion section don't mean squat. People post all over the wrong place.

More than likely the stepper motor. Their are companies that rebuild the cluster if you wanted to go that far.

Sure doesn't.
And for some reason I can't log in from my laptop.

No clue. Stopped caring. I'll just deal with mobile.

shift key contact?

Because, after last night (replacing the coil pack and spark plugs (NGK brand and ACD 41105's)) suddenly it was working again...
Oh, I also replaced the radiator cooling fan assy...

Perhaps when working in the vicinity, I inadvertently moved a wire or something that made it work again?

The aircraft mechanic in me needs to understand and do what I can to make it reliable...
