Some Ion questions

Hello all. I recently bought an Ion and am looking to do some upgrades to it.

The first thing is lowering it. It looks like a 4x4 the way it sits. Anything that offers a close-to-factory ride that I can look at? I found some Eibach springs on Amazon but was wondering what else I can look for?

Anyone ever convert the rear drums to disks before? I found a link here but it was dead. Rear disks are easier to work on so I figured I would ask.

EIBACHS ride good but give little drop. Progress tighten up the wheel gap better and ride near as good as the EIBACHS. I've have both in ION sedans and like the progress better. Have not done a disc converion on an ION....not worth the time and money for me.

Picture is the progress drop I have in the Silver ION. Thats the same drop as the white ION. A real poor picture by the way.

Looks like Progress is not making lowering spring for the Ion anymore. I would not mind getting a 2" drop all around. With larger wheels, it should fill in nicely.

See if you can still buy the progress rear swaybar. Worth every penny in my book.

The progress stance is nice ... and ride is good. Maybe look into HR springs. Riding on 225/45X17's

I have H&R on my 328 already. The drop is really nice but the ride isn't all that great.

Well what ever you get ............ will be better than the highlife. Maybe search the net for pictures.....ION EIBACH and see what you you see. May evan try ION TEIN.

I'm looking at different springs. Were there any differences in the suspension from 03-05 and 06-07??

Besides the L61 Ecotec, are some interchangeable parts between other cars like the Cobalt? I'm wondering because of the electric power steering pump or is that just specific to the Ion?

RjION 01-11-2013 04:08 PM

I've not paid any attention to what parts are interchangeable other than suspension. As fas as power steering read the link I posted below. Call your nearest Chevy dealer for more information.

The Cobalt has pretty much the same components. My power steering is not messing up but it's good to know.

While the Cobalt is an ION clone not everything is the same.

atl328i............springs?

atl328i 02-13-2013 09:26 PM

Still looking. I may just go with another set of H&R springs. The H&Rs on the Bimmer handle awesome so the choice is fairly obvious.

Also, I am looking for wheels that are "BBS style" for my car. I've been looking on the Web for hub bore and whether or not the rims/car are lug-centric or hub-centric. No real good results on that the centric part but I've found a few different places that say the bore is 56.6mm or 56mm??

Also, what spark plugs are you guys running?? I have read everywhere that Bosch is a no-go because it will hurt the engine. I have some nice Autolites that are for the car but have not put them in. Also, if the car is sitting still and the RPMs are at ~4k, does the car cut the fuel off to the engine?

On another note, the fact that an oil filter cartridge is used is nice and familiar.

Edit: What's a good Web site for aftermarket/OEM parts? There are a few places for my BMW like ECS and Turner so I was wondering if there was a similar place for the Saturn.

Plugs are so simple..........replace them with what came out of the car. You'll find nothing better. Car has a rev limiter as do most modern cars.

most of the aftermarket has dryed up and you may well understand why.

Open this http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/int...NMmEQ__.dtc308 link and see what they have on your car

Did you find wheels? Did you buy springs? Did you bolt on new wheels and tires to your dropped ION? Damn I hate seeing ION owners not posting, there are not many of us on this forum.
