R.I.P. to my ION :(

I owned the car for over 3 years. I bought it at 177,000 miles and totaled it out at 202,000. I live like 3 miles from my job. The only real $$$ spent other than maintenance in 3.5 years was new brakes about a month after purchase. The check engine light came on less than a week after I got it and I remember being very worried. It stayed on the entire time that I had the car, but I never had any problems at all. I'm going to miss this car and this forum. Thanks for all of the help and knowledge!!! Oh, and the wreck was not my fault. An 18-wheeler tire blew out in front of me on the interstate. It struck my front end and I went into the median... Needless to say, It could have been a lot worse. They gave me $3000 for it which is more than I paid when I bought it.

Glad you are ok.

People have died from retreads letting loose and smashing through the windshield. Another reason to never tail a tractor trailer.

And now an attempt to lighten the mood:
.
I noticed you had your wipers on. That's incredible reflex time for something that big coming at you at that rate of speed.....

Feel free to stick around. You might actually enjoy us on a regular basis. Or not. Only one way to find out

Yep, Happy to hear that you were not injured. Now you have enough money to purchase another decent used Saturn and hang out. But really, you live that close to work, you should just ride a bicycle. I used to do that at my first Autozone job.

Yep, 3 lane interstate and I was in the left (fast) lane behind maybe two cars. There were two trucks in the middle lane and I felt myself getting boxed in when everyone including the second truck hit the brakes hard. The second truck even drifted into my lane a little. As I was obtaining a lawyer, I was reading about how retreads can come off and cause fatal damage. I consider myself blessed. I do have some soft tissue injuries to my neck and shoulder that I am getting worked on (physical therapy, etc...). When I hit the median, the electrical system went haywire. The airbags deployed, smoke started coming into the car, all the interior lights were flashing and the wipers came on by themselves. It all happened so fast... I have always been leery of 18-wheelers on the highway. I am just glad to learn this lesson and be able to walk away. I am staying FAR away from them from now on.

And yes, since I started this job 2 years ago I have seriously considered biking to work even if only for a couple of days out of the week! I'm not sure yet what my next vehicle will be. I will be receiving a another settlement once I am through with my medical treatment(s), so we will see. I will definitely pop in from time to time.

I won't get into the whole recaps on big rigs vs why conventional vehicles CAN'T run them, but anytime I overtake a big rig or dump truck or ANYTHING with recaps, I get around them as quickly as possible. And being boxed in with nowhere to go is a very scary thing. Don't sign off on any treatment until you're 100% sure that you're okay. My son is going through a similar situation from some little punk ass kid with a phone rear ending him last Thanksgiving. He's still having neck and back issues. That's what the lawyers are for.

Glad to hear you’re okay, and truly sorry about your car. Thankfully, you could pick up another ION for your settlement if you wanna stay in the fold... I couldn’t imagine getting rid of mine and not getting another lol...

and yes, MAKE SURE you’re okay before you sign off on anything physical therapy related
