Default Odd and intermittent rear brake squeal

My service tech has been in business since the mid 1960s, and I've been with him for almost 20 years. He has several times looked at the rear brake shoes and drums, which he says are in very good condition, but he hasn't been able to find what causes an odd (and rather embarrassing) squeal when coming to a stop. It doesn't happen when just applying the brakes to slow down to take corners, etc., only when slowing to a stop. And it doesn't happen all the time. The weather doesn't seem to be a factor, either, and I can't tell whether the squeal comes from the left or right side or both. Any ideas? Thanks.

You need to clean the ears up on the shoes with a file or rasp and use plenty of brake grease. The ears must be done to eliminate it completely.

You are welcome. Cleaning up the ears fixes them. Done many over the years.
