Hello, new to the site. I have a 2004 Ion and I want to change the look of the front of it. I’ve already done some body work/modifications on it, that need to be finished as well. I was wondering if the front on a 97 SC would work.

I know bones put a sc coupe nose on his sedan. I will ask him to post some pictures.

 

 

The rear of the fenders do not fit the A pillar exactly. The supercharged coupe nose really changes the look.

 

Bones move to New Zealand last year. I still keep in touch with him.

If you look at the picture, you can't do the full s car wrap around on the sides. It's just not shaped in that way. So you kind of have to splice the front part in. I have physically seen that car up close in that configuration. While it looks cool, I think the bottom of the radiator is left thoroughly exposed very low down on the car so you need to put something across there, unless the radiator sits up higher than the s car. For whatever reason, in my mind, the gap between the bumper and the bottom rail looks much wider than the space on the Saturn s cars. That opening was not for air flow, it was for looks. The air dam underneath was angled forward and on springs in order to direct air directly across the radiator. Which is why you never want to delete the air damn if you live anywhere hot. Without that direct airflow, do you stand a chance of overheating.

I'll check with him as to what he did. But as you can see where the ends of the front piece meet the ion sides, the curve is not is not the same so I'm not sure how to gracefully handle that with body work. As you can see and I'm not bashing him, it came out okay but would probably not place in a car show. That dude is very very creative. I don't know if any of you know what the aerocivic is/was. Go look it up on the web. He was the final owner and somebody rear ended him and ended it's life.

Funny irrelevant story. The first time I rolled down to meet him in West Virginia, his iron red line was fresh off a ZZP tune. However those red lines were known for killing boost if the parameters were even slightly out of kilter. He got tired of it and he clamped out the wastgate closed so it couldn't loose boost.
Three blocks before he arrived at the restaurant where we met, he did a pull and effed up his engine. So I never did get to ride in an iron red line with boost, but a long-term friendship was born. He was the first Saturn forum member I met in person. I've driven down south and I've met Rube as well. He is a little wifty sometimes, but don't let that fool you for a second. He is very very wise, and his wife is a hoot.

Thanks, derf. I don't consider myself the least bit wise. I STILL haven't learned how to play this Strat! But, you're absolutely right about the wife. She still manages to **** me off almost every day! LOL

That looks like the Redline front. I was thinking about the sc coupe front, as I want to use my hood and the Redline hood is different, so the Redline front wouldn’t work.

 

Yep. You are correct. No clue what I was talking about for which I apologize. Indeed I don't think the coupe front has much chance of working although I will now search the internet for someone who spent enough time and money to actually do it and then I'll post a picture
