Car dies when coming to a stop.

I have a 2006 Saturn ION Level 2, Lately the rpms drop when coming to a stop. The car shudders a little bit and then smooths out. Lately it has been periodically dieing. But not every time. AC is NOT on. otherwise it starts and runs perfectly going down the road. It is an automatic.
