Can the electronic throttle body be rebuilt?

I'm the sole owner of this 2007 Ion2. It's throwing a P0121 code and it may be that the electronic throttle body needs a good cleaning. I'm usually thorough with my maintenance and I was wondering if I should go ahead and just rebuild the darn thing. I'd like to dissect it and completely clean it out. Is this possible?

Bones,

Any advice?

I'm curious about this one, too. Maybe just check with one of the local parts stores and see if they offer a rebuild kit and then see what's in it? I'd try cleaning it first and see if that helps.

One reason why I want to know if it's rebuild-able is because I've heard some nightmare stories of cleaner fluid seeping into the butterfly and damaging the electronics, (the TPS). Seems like later 2007 ETB's from GM the TPS is replaceable, but not on the Saturn. Which makes no sense to me because the ETB's look exactly the same and have removable clips that hold the TPS onto the ETB. They also make rebuild kits for em. If I had a junkard one heck yeah I'd rip it up to take a look-see. But I dont want to risk spending $160.00 for a new one just cause I'm curious...lol!

Well, I don't know where you are in FL, Fred, but here in Polk County, there are several you pull it type junkyards you can go to and maybe find a throttle body. Not a huge investment just to experiment on and if you really wanted to, you could just take one apart there in the yard. Who's going to ask you what you're doing?

Plenty U-Pick boneyards round here too Rube. That's a last resort.
