Battery cable connector after fuse

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

Off the battery there is the small red cable that has a fuse then another connector. My truck got some water in it and rotted that connector. To clarify not the fuse but the connector after the fuse. I have attached a photo of the connector. Do I need this connector or can I just attach the wires directly? The reason I ask is my car will randomly die because the connector is so bad. I have to open the trunk and push the wires back together in the connector and then it will start right up. I am having a hard time getting the part but I also don't see a reason for it because the fuse is still in place with no issues.

Thank you in advance for any responses!

I would just eliminate the connector.

Ditto what Andy said. I'd splice the wires, solder them, heat shrink the connection and then cover it with electrical tape. You don't need the frigging connector.

Indeed. Looks like a strain relief or "support" connector that plugs into the body somewhere to keep the wire away from things.

I would advise the same as Andy and Rube -- but I would also rig up some sort of way to keep it out of the way (like it was originally routed) to ensure it doesn't get snagged on anything when putting in or taking out items from the trunk.
