2007 - Oil Cap Tube Leaking - Do I Need It

Do I need this extra piece that is between the engine and the oil cap? Doesn't have a tight fit & looks like oil can get out. Can I take it out & will the cap fit in there? I don't have the plastic engine cover.

Can't tell without looking straight down into the hole, but it appears to have the threads for the cap in that top piece so I would say you would absolutely need it. Again, would need to have a view straight down into the hole to see where the threads are.

Thank you for replying. The neck is loose & can turn a little bit, but I'm nervous to try & take it off. Maybe another day. Kinda hard to get a picture of the inside. It looks like it's just a cylinder.

So the threads are in the piece below? If that is the case, where is the oil leaking from. Please be specific. if that upper piece is just a cylinder, there should not be any oil getting up there in the first place if it's just the spacer. If the oil cap threads into the lower portion, again, there shouldn't be oil getting out from anywhere including under the cap.

Carefully inspect the oil cap to see if the seal on it is damaged. That's really the only way I could see oil getting up into the spacer. It should also be getting down onto the cam cover if it is leaking at the cap. They are not very expensive if you need to replace the cap. Probably can't find OEM but I would look. Whatever you find, purchase a new one not a used one as you want a brand new seal out of this

I'm pretty sure the seal is bad on the tube. The backside has space between it & the oil hole. I have an appointment Friday with my mechanic for a few other things. I'll have him check it out. Thank you for helping me out.

I believe the spacer is just there for the the engine beauty cover. The valve cover is the same as the L series engine, the cap just screws into the valve cover. The spacer should just unscrew form the cover.
