2007 Ion...Carpet replacement...
All,
Bought the vehicle in late 06 and the carpet professionally cleaned 3 times and am thinking its replacement time.
Lookin at stock interior molded carpet in the premium plush. Anyone ever replace their carpet in a Ion...I have done a few cars..wanted to get an idea of difficulty and possibly any other source of interior carpet.
Thanks,
Chris

Carpet...
Yeah,
Kind of figured it would be the same approach but more concerned with any gotchas or more troublesome areas...I figure the shifter (manual) and the center console area will be a challenge.
The front seats will need to be removed and caution around the wiring etc. Then the back bottom seat will need to be just loosened.
Side rail plastic panels removed.
Pull Carpet up and swipe/clean/sand and paint anything rusty. Put new carpet in. Detail/clean seats and rest of car interior out. Put everything back in as before (reverse procedure).
Anything else/Missing anything?
Thanks,
Chris

Well, like you said, the console. Just take your time with it and make sure you find all of the hidden screws before attempting to take it out. I'd leave it until after the front seats are out and then put it in first after the new carpet is in.

Carpet...
All,
I understand the "shedding" its typical for Olefin type carpets. I would have been 3rd generation flooring professional (sales, installing, repairing and cleaning), if I did not earn my Bachelors/Masters Degrees and take up my current profession (Software Engineer).
With quality in mind, I have been looking at Stock Interiors. I have helped restore 2 VW beetles and they used the better carpet from them.

I am considering the molded, premium carpet....
Thanks,
Chris
