2006 Ion A/C low port
 

My Ion has finally run out of refrigerant and I have a RedTech pack to refill it. I have looked at the Haynes book but the pic that they show for the low port is completely different than what I have under my hood. Would any of you know where it is located on the 2006 model? I see an aluminum coloured tube at the back of the engine but it has the cap in the middle of the tube and in the Haynes book it showed the cap on the end of the tube.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The low side port is on the larger of the two tubes behind the engine near the firewall.

Cap location doesn't mean diddly. Your hose will only fit the low side port. Remove the cap and see if the hose fits. If so, you're in business. If not, keep looking. High side port is smaller than the low side IIRC.

Thank you so much. We were able to follow your instructions and the other person who replied and we now have freezing cold air coming out.

Awesome news, man. I like freezing cold a/c. The wife closes her vents and I keep mine wide open.

I love the freezing cold and my husband likes it warmer. Next car we get it's going to have separate climate controls :) But yeah if you have R12 or the R132a the RedTek will work in both systems so if you have an R12 and don't want to pay thousands to get it converted to the R132a you can use this new product. It even saves money as it cools at a lower pressure. I added the sealant first and then just one tin of the refrigerant and it's keeping the freezing cold. Great thing is it comes with a gauge so you know how much you need. I got the kit so I have an extra tin if it loses this charge.

Not many R12 systems around anymore. It got really expensive in the 90's. I can't imagine how much it would be now.

R12 is very uncommon in automotive since phase-out in the mid-90's. Most OEM's switched over to R134a in '94.

Probably limited to legacy industrial applications at this point.
