I was the proud owner of n 02 sl1 that was a total loss due to an accident. I just bought an 06 Ion 3. So far this car is awesome. I joined the group because it has a leaky engine oil cooler and mechanics in my area can't find the part anywhere.

 

Oil Cooler - GM (12594525) for 2.4L Discontinued
Oil Cooler - GM (12786259) listed for 2.0L (Redline), says also fits Ion 2 and 3 w 2.2, and Ion 3 w 2.4 in SOME of the online GM parts stores.

BUT also listed for sale on Amazon, and fitment guide indicates it is ONLY a fit for the 2.0L Red Line.

At the partsgeek link above there are a bunch of Hayden Generic DIY universal kits. They look like trans coolers to me..;..don't know what the original looks like so don't know what the replacement part should look like

Is yours a 2.2 or 2.4L?

 

It's a 2.4L

 

As far as I know this is what it looks like. I Know It Bolts to the side of the motor next to the oil filter. A lot of the ones you see are aftermarket do look like trans coolers but that is not going to fix my problem because my factory cooler is leaking. So I need to do more than reroute the oil lines.

 

That is the same one from the same website I listed above.

Make a 100% positive ID under the hood/car. Trace the leak upwards from the bottom o the car to find the source.
Put it up on jack stands. Do NOT rely only on a JACK
Warm the engine up first and then park it, put it on stands, and trace down the leak.

Visit www.gmpartsdirect.co or.com and look at the subdiagram for location. I think it is the one that says oil pan. In any event, you can select by vehicle, then text search for the part

 

Is the part leaking or is it a gasket issue where the face of it meets the block?

 

The actual oil cooler is leaking. Having a hard time finding a fix for this I really don't want to be driving the car leaking oil all the time and have him check the oil every couple days. I'm going to have to see if any other engine size or models will fit this.
