I'm guessing, but I will hassle our Ion go-to guy to log on and answer your question if he can.
Since Ions do not have plastic outer panels like the S series did, I'd imagine you'd need to remove the inner door panel, get the window to its lowest position, and you should be able to figure out how it is held in place. Probably with a series of tabs which fit into matching slots in the door frame.

I'm not totally sure how to remove it... You're talking about the plastic that's likely bubbled and warped, right? I didn't properly remove that such trim on my Redline, I just sorta cut off the bubbled part and applied a product to cover the bare metal looking stuff underneath... There is no harm in doing this as there is another seal between the plastic outer door skin and the window...
