2005 with funky electrical issues

2005 Saturn ion. When driving the car shortly after leaving I lose power to almost everything in the car. The headlights, heat and air, turn signals, dash lights and 12v outlet all go out. Radio and gauges work fine. When I leave it alone and start it back up everything comes back on fine but cutting the bright lights on or most of the time turning the air on high causes it to go out and the only want for it to come back on is to either cut the vehicle off and let it sit (even though when this happens the key gets stuck and it won’t shift out of park but that’s another story) or getting out and slamming the hood gets everything to come back on except the dash lights those come back randomly. Any ideas?

Sounds like a ground issue. Or your alternator/battery is starting to go out.
check the grounds first.
Have an auto store do a load test on your battery and alternator.

What he said.

If that doesn't pan out:

Also check the Pos and Neg batt cables at the batt and other ends. Battery acid may have been wicked up the Pos cable and eaten through it.

Also try wiggling stuff around with the car running, keeping in mind the Pos cable is carrying current from the alternator to the battery.

Also check the batt feed to the under hood fuse box. Having such a bizarre unrelated combination of things that don't work May point to an issue with the feed to the fuse box or other issues with the fuse box itself.

Took it to advance and had them run a diagnostic on it. Said battery was fine but the alternator wasn’t putting out enough juice like it should. Replaced the alternator and it didn’t help any. Connections looked fine to me gonna take the grounds loose and clean them up a little more and see what happens. Now the car won’t go into gear at all without reaching under the gear selector

you cannot see corrosion between two surfaces if they are flush to each other....

Likely the shift cable is shot. Those little rubber gromets wear down

Now when you flip the turn signal to go right, it cuts on the left turn signals. Whenever you try and turn the left turn signal on nothing happens

The Snufalufagous is probably bad. I've seen it happen like 3 times in my 10+ years of dealing with these

The turn signal stalk.

Texans often use Sesame Street nicknames for parts

Apologies on behalf of the entire forum for his misidentification. He meant Bert.
