Default 2004 Saturn Ion transmission

I have a 2004 Saturn ION with a 5 speed automatic transmission and a 2.2 liter ecotec engine. When I slow down to take a corner in town and don't completely stop and then I accelerate the transmission will make a slam sound and jerk the car and then will be just fine, if I very lightly push the gas it will not do this and at no other time does it slip or slam into gear. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Watch the tachometer during both the slam events and the smooth events and let us know the behavior of each relative to what you're doing with the gas pedal at the time---especially when the actual slam is taking place.

I noticed that the car is at about 2,000 rpms when it does the slam thing. The rpms do not jump or anything they go up normal as I accelerate almost as the transmission does not knowledge that anything happened

Ok, so based on the description and RPM:

1) it could be lamming on the 1-2 shift when under any real load (foot on pedal with hard accelerating).

The part I don't understand with that is how the RPMs don't change (drop) with the 1-2 shift.

So I'm thinking it is not a 1-2 shift issue.

Maybe a torque converter issue?

Await feedback from others on this one

Moved.........

REALLY? You posted a transmission thread to the Help and Suggestions Section which has a sticky at the top which says DO NOT POST TECH QUESTIONS here?

I think I'll have ADMIN lock the category to keep people from posting in it.

I know people are new to the online forum experience, but reading is a required task.
Sometimes it's the little things that make me want to walk away from this forum after 14 years of moderating.

If I do, I'll pick some of you who can hold down the fort until Saturns are considered rare and classic. Then I'll come back and.................sorry, day I'd rather forget.

Your transmission is in the process of breaking down. Mine did that right before it quit.

IonGuy, that thread is over 6 years old. No point in replying to something like that. We try to keep things current.
