HAPPY UPDATE! Turns out there was a loss of communication between my tcm and ecm (code U2105) and the tech who offered to do a free check cleared the issue. No parts needed, transmission is healthy :D

Sweet. Was it a loose communications connection or just a hiccup in the TCM that made it stop talking to the rest of the modules?

All this info I'm reading about the CVT transmission is scaring me. The 2004 Saturn Vue I just purchased has that transmission in it. It's got 136.000 miles on it too. I hope it don't take a dirtnap any time soon on me.
