2003 saturn ion manual transmission only reverse, 1 and 4 available
 

Was driving my 2003 saturn ion with manual transmission on the highway and had cruise on and my cruise randomly shut off and then when I tried to reengage it, I noticed it would only stay in gear 4. I pulled over and now I only have reverse, gear 1 and gear 4 available. When I tried to use gear 2 or 3 for example its very resistant. I also noticed the transmission is more noisy. Anyone have a cheap fix for this or know what went wrong?

It does not sound like there will be a “cheap fix” for the problem you are describing. Sounds like the transmission ran low on lube oil and has failed. You could check and maybe fill the lube oil but it sounds like it is too late for that transmission.

Does it go into gears when the car is off?

Or youre one of the few I've heard of breaking a f23 on a stock vehicle.

I have one available for 450 shipped in east Texas. 140k on it.

thanks for the replies everyone! i will check the fluid level and see how it is,

when car is off btw, i can shift it into every gear. when the car is on then only reverse, 1 and 4 work. the rest are too hard to push in/the shifter doesnt wanan go.

Sounds hydraulic then. Either slave or clutch master. Check fluid. If fluid is fine its time for a new clutch master
