Old thread but thanks for replying Billy. Ion’s run L61s but with different ecm’s than L series cars. Plus Ions have electric power steering where L’s have pumps driven by the intake cam. All the L200’s run speed density not MAF and have throttle cables. The L300 is MAF plus drive by wire. Other than the short block the cars are completely different. Ions are American cars and L’s are Opels from GM Europe. GM started using the Europe designed L61 in the Saturn L and LS1 in 2000. GM started using it company wide in 2002. They still use varieties based on this engine to this day.

I have yet to play with an Ion. My L series keep me plenty busy. Coming up on 10 years with this series in 5 months!

Think I'm going to turbo mine and hope for the best on low boost
