Unknown crimp fitting
 

My friend has a 2008 Saturn Aura, his brakes gave out. The line from the master cylinder to the proportioning block was rusty and got a hole in it. No one has the complete piece as it is discontinued on every imaginable site I could think of researching. If need be I will buy the braided line (for brake fluid pulsation) and the line but I have no idea what the fittings used are called that attach the braided line to the steel line (5/16" yeah pretty big for sedan!) Guess once I have that I could buy the tools to make a new one. Attached a photo so as to help identify it. Oh google lens or whatever it is called was of no use to me. Thanks

Do you happen to have a part# for that thing? If so, a search is in order from GM parts to eBay or Amazon and all points in between. GLWI.

I have a part # however all searches with one exception, showed it is discontinued. Even called a brake line fabricator about 25 miles away and after he viewed pics his builders said that they can't fabricate it. Only place is Parts Geek who stated they might be getting one in later this week and to call on Saturday. Until then the car will sit!

If you post that part#, I'm sure I'm not the only one here that would be willing to help you search for it.

If nothing else they are attached to vehicles sitting in junk yards and they are not all necessarily rusted out.

Parks geek claims to be able to get it within 6 weeks. They do not list it as discontinued, though we all know what that's worth.

I could not get them to commit that they could actually source the part but it's probably worth a try. Just use a credit card so you can dispute the charges if they start acting like wieners.

Oh the joy of owning old vehicles

Checked with a couple junk yards within 25 miles but they both said they won't sell brake parts due to liability issues.

When I was in Florida on a trip about 15 years ago, we went into a cigar shop. Thousands of cigars. The owner illegally imported Cuban cigars that were recognized as some of the best in the world.
Some of his best customers were police officers. They didn't know how he obtained them and they didn't want to know. They just wanted the cigars.

Knowing that it was legal to possess them but illegal to sell them in the US, the owner said, "now I can't sell this to you as that would be against the law. However if you are willing to make a donation to the cause (keeping the shop open), I could show my appreciation to you with a gift."

That's how the cops came to obtain said cigars, the owner never got arrested, and everyone was happy ever after.

My point in telling that story is that you might want to ask if you can do the same type of exchange, where you do not actually buy the part from them, but instead make a donation to their wrecking yard after which they could decide to give you a brake part as a gift.

Without a bill of sale or a hidden camera tape recording, there is no way to prove that the part came from their wrecking yard, and therefore they cannot possibly be liable in any way.

They get a cash donation, you get a gift brake part traceable to nowhere, and everyone is theoretically happy ever after. Worth a try.
