camshaft position sensor warning light
 

Hello Saturn forum,

I have a 2008 saturn aura with 102K miles. I've seen posts here about a similar problem I have, but mine might be different. There is a warning light on my dashboard about a camshaft position sensor. I had a mechanic that wasn't a gm dealer try to fix this & he replaced 2 camshaft position sensors and reset the computer. This resolved the problem for a day but warning light came back on. The car was hesitating at highway speeds some before sensors were replaced, but runs smooth now. I've read posts about replacing spark plugs or spark plug wires which might resolve this issue. Is there anything else that could be fixed to resolve the warning light? I need to go back to the mechanic and leave it with him for a day he said if warning light comes on again, but it's hard for me to take time off work for that.

you sure its the camshaft light and not limp mode?

Leaving it with him for a day sounds like he's searching the net, and is going to buy all the parts possibly related to a fix, throw them on, drive it all over the place, and charge you out the wazoo for parts and labor.

Just my take. Aura's are not common. Most mechanics have never seen one.

You could take it to a Saturn friendly GM dealership for a $90 diag fee and hopefully they are honest and tell you what's still wrong. You are NOT bound to have the work done there, but they are more likely to have the parts. No, I don't work for a dealership or for GM, and usually I suggest to people to search the entire internet and fix it themselves if it does not seem too complicated. If you think you have rational well thought out reason why replacing x may fix the issue, you may want to try on your own.

What you do NOT want to do is start throwing multiple parts at it (shotgunning) not knowing why you're doing it.

Is it an arrow pointing down with a circle around it?
check your plugs, cat, and clean your throttle body.

The warning light is a picture of an engine which owners manual said is related to transmission. I might take it to a gym dealer and stop fooling around with it.

The check engine light can come on for many reasons. You need to read the codes and the symptoms and go from there. Do not just throw parts at it, read the codes.

I agree with Andy (02 LW200). Take it to your closest Autozone, Advance, etc and have them read the codes for you. It's free!

Or it might just be asking for b00st.
