What is the better oil?
Hey all..
For the 1000th time of changing my oil, i like to hear what peoples opions are on oils. At a canadian tire or auto parts what are the better oils those companys hold, Im not really looking for a sythenic oil, because i do my oil on a regular base, dont need to use the expensive stuff. Mobile 1? Quakerstate? Thanks for the help |
I use Quaker State because thats what they have at Costco. I buy it by the case since my three Saturns, Suburban and Tahoe all use the same oil.

Cool thanks Mike
I've used quakestat before but have been using mobile 1 for a lil while on my dakota, but I thought quaker would be good for the saturn. I'll be going to get the supplies tonight :) |
Any quality oil will work just fine, just make sure its the right weight.
I like to have nice oil and i usually buy high milage stuff, but i draw the line when the price for supplies goes over 20 or so dollars. My roommate in college used to live by royal purple, but at 8 dollars a quart its just not worth it if you aren''t driving a ''vette or a ferrari. I purchase my oil at Walmart, and sometimes they will have synthetic for the same price as regular, and i go for it at that point. I''ve used it a few time, and its nice, but not needed. |
Can u switch back and forth from synthetic and regular??is it recmended not to?or doesn''t really matter?

I don''t think there is really an issue, I never had a problem. When i change
my oil, I normally let the pan drain for a half hour or so, open up the filter and the top cap and just let it go until it really stops dripping. Even if you are just doing a regular oil change this helps get as much dirty oil out as possible. Even if you don''t drain the lines to this extent, mixing that minuscule amount of oil should not effect anything. I can just say that with my experience using it, its never been a problem. |
5w30 -- oil of your choice -- snth tends to get into places that dino oil can't -- some folks report leaks after switching from dino to synth -- I run Mobil 1 in my Sc2s and am happy

look at the back of the bottle if it says oil city pa. throw it in the garbage.. been building engines of all types for 30 years and if you want a motor full of sludge use penns or q state and thats what will happen. mechanics who know use low ash oils like valvoline, havoline conventional oils.( syn base oils are another animal.)

i prefer pennzoil platinum or mobil 1 with a K&N oil filter. i can usually find the big jugs of oil on sale at walmart for much cheaper than autozone or any parts store.
