A friend of mine has a 2002 SC2 that she just got like a week and a half ago. The service engine soon light came on not long after she got it. She got the spark plugs changed, oil changed, and it went away. It came back on, and she ran a tank of gas mixed with fuel system cleaner through it, the light went off. Then the light came back on again. It's coming on, and going off whenever it feels like. I have an SC1, and my light came on for like 10 minutes a month ago, but it hasn't come back on since... As far as I know, that light usually comes on for something "not so serious" but it's just odd that it doesn't stay on or off.... Any suggestions?? I know that on the dodge vehicles, you can just cycle the ignition, and get trouble codes, but I'm not sure if it's the same on the saturns. If there is,can someone let me know, and i'll help her out with it... |
AutoZone can check it when the light is on... Its almost always a o2 sensor (in my history anyway)

find a shop with a scan tool
ott... will the scan tool work if the ses in intermittent?
I` ve had this problem in the past with my 99 sc1. Found out it was my coil towers, theywere coated withsome kind of white flaky powder ( inside the spark plug boots too !!!) At another time, it was a defective spark plug wire....In either case, you should notice a lack of power. Once fixed, the light should go away after a couple short trip.https://www.saturnforum.com/smileys/smiley20.gif |
by the way a computer will sometimes store a code, but the engine light will not come on. the scan tool will be able to show those codes
So the scan tool will pull up previous codes? That could come in handy when buying a used car.
