I'm replacing the O2 sensor on my 94' SC2. (The
dealer's shop neglected to do so at the 90k tune up. Like they also
neglected to replace the serpentine belt when they replaced the water
pump.) </span>I purchased a Denso sensor from a local - and usually
reputable - parts store. The sensor appears to be the correct one
except for one GLARING difference: It has a male connector &amp; the
original has a female. (On the original, the exact same male connector
is on the harness end.) When I took it back to the store they told me
that I would need to clip the wires &amp; swap the connectors. "It's a
single wire system so it's easy to do".



Firstly, I am NOT an electrician! Secondly, if I did manage to splice
the connectors properly (and not short out the ignition system) I am
not confident that electricians tape is going to last very long on tis
engine. Any SC owner knows how HOT thee engines run. Has anyone else
had to deal with this? It seems odd that the manufacturer would change
\ reverse connectors on a 10 year old model... but then this isn't my
first GM vehicle &amp; I've seen some strange things on their cars.



After much research (auto parts web
sites proving nearly useless as none of them would load the info I
needed) I discovered that there are two version of the O2 for that
year. The one I originally purchased AND the California emissions
version... which is what I have on my vehicle. The only dissernable
difference is a reversal of the polarity - female on the sensor &amp;
male on the harness \ block. When I bought the first version I wasn't
told that there was a second CA version, but both are listed on the
computer at the parts store. GO figure. Oh well, I'm getting between 35
&amp; 37 MPG right now - depending open driving conditions - and I hope
to close on 40 MPG with the new sensor. I hope I don't lose any power.</span>

black elec. tape will in about a month come apart and pretty much melt off. you might want to go and ask about a high heat tape.
