Replacing Head Gasket
 

Hey Guys, I got a line on a good deal for a 99 SC1. It has less than 90,000 miles on it and the owner says it needs a head gasket. SOHC engine, so shouldn't be too bad of a job. I need to know what brand head gasket you guys are recommending and using and whether or not the head bolts need to be replaced. I don't know if they're torque-to-yield head bolts in the Saturns or if they're reusable. I'd appreciate any feedback because I can get this car for less than 800 bucks, but got the feeling I need to act quickly. I want to get it and get it fixed so my son can have a work car. He can pay me back a little at a time once he's working. And if not, I can flip it for a profit if I have to. If I do get it and get it fixed, then I may sell my Grand Caravan and just keep the SC. Mileage will sure be a hell of a lot better!

I like felpro gaskets. The head bolts should not be reused as they are stretch bolts and you torque them down and then turn them 90 degrees

Your welcome that is what we are here for to help each other out.
Not sure how much time or money you want to put into that project but they sell a head set for those engines that has all the gaskets and seals for the head including the valve seals if you want to go that far into it. It does more to do that but my luck has always been that if I have a chance to change something and I don't I will be going back and changing it in a few weeks.
