Default removing rivets from ring gear

I seem to have met my match. I am in the process of getting an MFactory LSD in the MP3 I pickup last year. I used an center end mill in my drill press to remove the rivet heads. All went well until I went to press out the rivets. I have a 12 ton press and it is to the point where I can not pull the handle down any further! Maybe if i put a cheater bar on it but I know bad things can happen if you go beyond a stress point. My question: Does anyone know if I drill a hole completely through the rivet it may be easier to push out? I don't want take my acetylene to it but dont know if it might take the temper out of the ring gear beside my thinking is they will both be same temp wont make a difference. I am open for any ideas anyone has as long as it reasonably safe.

I would try drilling all the way through the rivet. I have only had one big truck rear end apart that sheared the rivets. I know we bolted it back together and it lived its life. I was not the one to removed the damaged rivets.

I think i will try and mill it a bit deeper being carefully not to go into the ring gear then perhaps drill down through it and try again.

Default MFactory LSD completed

UPDATE: I got the ring gear rivets on and the MFactory lsd attached with supplied bolt and red thread locker. What I had to do was drill a hole down thru the rivet and then mill another quarter inch below the surface level.

Would you be interested in doing a reassembly write up with step wise statements and pictures? It will become a sticky here on the forum. I don't believe, after all these years, we have anything like that for an S Series MP3.
Most members here have likely never seen the inside of an MP3, let alone worked on one.

It doesn't need to be a full explanation of how the thing works, but it can be.

Actually I'm not aware of any members here that have attempted as LSD swap in an MP3, so you could also Do a complete end to end write-up of the mod, though I understand that would be difficult do do for the part you've already executed.

Just a thought..no pressure.....🔨🤔💪🖖

Hey Derf, It may be a while before I can even start getting it back together...lets see we have the holidays, then the floods and loss of power to overcome first. My feet are still dry but the wind and wet is causing trees close to the house, garage to become dangerous now and need attending too. I live near a river but luck would have it 30 years ago I picked a high point to settle on. But once all this clears up I will start putting the MP3 together. I can take pictures and try and do some sort of step by step but that is not this feller's strong suit. There is a youtube video where the process is shown but I don't know if that would be permissible to post.
Hope all here have an enjoyable Christmas.

Happy holidays to you and yours.

No reason to reinvent the wheel. You may absolutely post YouTube video links to the site.
