MY Pop up headlights make a grinding sound when they go down. The Motor keeps running for about 15 seconds after lights are down. Is there a limit switch some type of adjustment ? THANKSEdited by: Dextertemp

You need a new motor. The gear inside is missing a few teeth. Happens as they get older. If you have a Pick-N-Pull, grab one and call it a power window motor when you go to pay for it. Its 1/4 to 1/3 the price.

Thanks Would both motors go out at the same time ? They are both doing the same grinding sound.

Its possible. They''re both open and closed those lights the same amount of time.

hey,
I had the same problem when I inherited my 92 sc. The motor cans and gears wear out, and need to be replaced. I went on to ebay, and found a guy who runs a pick and pull, and he had a few to sell. The same unit works for the drivers side and passengers. When I replaced mine, i pulled the entire headlight unit out, takes a little work and time, but it makes it easier to work on. I had to take out the hardware holding the fenders so i could pull the fender back just enough to slide the unit out. (the side marker light is connected to the headlamp assembly). You need some basic tools, torx bits if you have them, but allens work, a socket set with an extender. Make sure you grease the assembly a bit, just for a bit of extra protection and smooth operation. I also took the time to clean and paint everything, since the stock paint had chipped off and worn away. Its a little step, but when you put everything back together, it looks nice. |
