Let me see if I understand you correctly:

1. Your winter snow tyres are bald (or nearly so)

2. Your summer tyres are good, but do not have the aggressive type of tread found in winter tyres.

3. You do not have a lot of spare cash right now.

4. Your question is > Do you put the summer tyres on now, and restrict your driving to good weather days (thereby saving your money), or do you put yourself in debt and purchase winter tyres with only a month to go in the season <

Since you never know whena Polar bear is going to take a dump in your tent, I would vote for the winter tyres, and work more hours

Amazing how people will replace parts unnecessarily.

Did you get your money back?

After working on the ball joints AND the tie-rods, I sincerely hope an alignment was done on the vehicle, or them brand new tyres will be worn out abnormally fast ...
